Hay River, Fort Smith, Fort Simpson and Fort Liard will soon see improvements to their local transportation systems courtesy of a nearly $14 million funding pledge from the Government of Canada.

In Hay River, the money will be used to raise Airport Road and the water plantSA国际影视传媒檚 access road to reduce the impact of spring flooding, which has been an increasingly serious problem in recent years. The most at-risk sections of the road will also be paved with asphalt, and outfitted with drainage infrastructure, which will improve its resilience to flood damage.
"The spring flooding of the Hay River has long been a challenge for our community, but today, we are taking another significant step to protect our infrastructure, our homes, and our residents," said Jameson. "Raising Airport Road will make a key area of our town more resilient to flooding and protect essential services. This project is not just about safeguarding our community today SA国际影视传媒 itSA国际影视传媒檚 about building a stronger, more sustainable Hay River for the future."
Fort Smith will use the funds to build a multipurpose trail around Thebacha Recreational Area. Fort Simpson, meanwhile, will use the funds to purchase a wheelchair accessible passenger vehicle, which will provide on-demand transportation services around town and to surrounding communities. In Fort Liard, finally, the federal funds will be used to improve the local access road.
