GN makes changes to executive; reorganizing departments

Community services, transportation and economic development to be modified

On Oct. 10, Premier P.J. Akeeagok announced changes to the Government of NunavutSA国际影视传媒檚 executive level and the pending reorganization of three departments.

Christine Ellsworth becomes deputy minister of Justice.

Alma Power takes on the role of deputy minister of Human Resources.

Pauloosie Suvega assumes the title of deputy minister of Environment.

Stephen Mansell becomes the chief negotiator of devolution.

Jackie Price was named president of Nunavut Arctic College.

Additionally, the GN is working to reorganize the departments of Community and Government Services, Economic Development and Transportation as well as the Government Liaison Office of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs to form two departments as of April 1, 2025. This will create the Department of Community Services and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut. 

David Akeeagok becomes the minister of Community Services, catering to the needs of communities, including economic development, lands and planning, consumer affairs, safety services, emergency management and government liaison offices. 

David Joanasie will oversee Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut, providing support to government departments, including infrastructure, information technology, transportation and procurement.

Kristie Cronin becomes the deputy minister of Economic Development and Transportation, with responsibility for the transition to the new Department of Community Services.

Kyle Seeley remains the deputy minister for Community and Government Services, with responsibility for the transition to the new Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut.
