Approved Nunavut residents are now able to access a forgivable $250,000 loan toward the purchase and shipping of their new home through the Nunavut Housing Corporation.
The announcement of the modernized Nunavut Homeownership Assistance Program (NHAP) came on Aug. 21 from the Government of Nunavut.
Housing Minister Lorne Kusugak stated, SA国际影视传媒淭ransitioning into homeownership is a challenge for any individual or family, but particularly for Nunavummiut, where housing options are minimal and costs are steep. By empowering residents to take an active role in building and maintaining their homes, this program aims to increase skills while increasing the number of new homes owned by Nunavummiut.SA国际影视传媒
The loan can only be applied toward building material packages approved by the Nunavut Housing Corp.
The NHAP offers a loan forgiveness period of 10 years. It also includes home ownership education, in addition to project management and supervision throughout the construction process.
