Following the theft of mail at the Iqaluit post office, police have charged a 39-year-old man in relation to the offences.

Akavak Mangitak has been charged with break and enter as well as theft of mail.

Nunavut published a news release on Nov. 25 asking for the publicSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s help in identifying a suspect who had broken into the Iqaluit post office on Oct. 5.

Subsequently, Iqaluit received a number of tips from the public and a suspect was identified.

Mangitak is currently in custody at the Aaqqigiarvik Correctional Healing Facility (ACHF) on non-related matters, according to the police. On Nov. 26, he was served an appearance notice for court, which is scheduled for Dec. 19 in Iqaluit.

The Iqaluit expressed thanks to Canada Post and the residents of Iqaluit for their assistance in this matter.
