have closed a case involving the death of a teenager in Yellowknife about 13 years after it opened.
Cody Dempster, 16, was found unresponsive in a downtown alley on 48 Street in May 2011.
"Dempster passed away despite efforts to resuscitate him," according to the on Nov. 6. "An autopsy determined that Dempster died as a result of acute drug toxicity. Investigators gathered evidence that supported that the drugs were administered to Dempster without his knowledge in a quantity that ultimately caused his death."
The case stayed open for so long because the NWT Historical Crime Unit took it over. From their investigations, the only suspect in the case died outside the territory in 2022.
state there is no evidence supporting that alternate suspects were involved. The are also not naming the suspect since this case will not go to trial.
