Hay River residents woke up to a new electricity provider on March 1, as the (NTPC) officially took over from Naka Power. While the name on the bill has changed, NTPC says the transition has been designed to be smooth and hassle-free for customers.

What to expect from NTPC
For Hay River residents, day-to-day electricity service will continue as usual. Outstanding balances from Naka Power accounts have been transferred to NTPC and will appear on the first NTPC bill. The biggest difference? Customers who were previously set up for pre-authorized payments will need to re-enter their banking details due to privacy regulations.

Customers moving in March should contact NTPCSA国际影视传媒檚 Customer Care team to set up new accounts. The first NTPC bills will be mailed out in late April, based on meter readings taken in mid-April, with payment due in mid-May.

New online account portal
NTPC is also introducing Hay River customers to, an online customer portal where users can view their electricity usage, pay bills and manage their accounts. However, since NTPC is issuing new account numbers, residents will first need to create login credentials.

A transition years in the making
The change in electricity provider dates back to 2015, when the Town of Hay River decided to explore whether a lower cost service provider could be found. NTPC was chosen following a comprehensive request for proposal process. The transfer of the distribution franchise took effect on March 1, 2025.
