Born and raised in Yellowknife, it's safe to say that Rebecca Alty understands the North SA国际影视传媒� the challenges facing the Northwest Territories, but also the region's many strengths and possibilities.
Alty, the Liberal Party of Canada candidate for the Northwest Territories, aims to use that experience as the region's next MP in Oattawa.
Serving as the Mayor of Yellowknife since 2018, following two terms as a City Councillor (2012SA国际影视传媒�2018), Alty's public service experience builds on an education that includes a Diploma in Film and Video at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), followed by a degree in Communication Studies from the University of Calgary.
Beyond her municipal experience, Alty's career has included roles in communications and community relations with the Diavik Diamond Mine, various non-profits, and the Government of the Northwest Territories.
With a deep commitment to community service, volunteer positions have included serving as President of the Northwest Territories Association of Communities, plus board positions with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Arctic Mayors Forum and the NWT/Nunavut Chamber of Mines.
"I am running to be the next Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories because I care deeply about the people and communities of the North," Alty says. "Throughout my time on City Council, my work in the mining industry and my volunteering with many community groups, I have proven my dedication and integrity. I am ready to bring my experience and skills to Ottawa to advocate for the Northwest Territories and deliver real results back home."
Key areas of interest for Alty include the quality of life for the territory's residents.
"My top three priorities as Member of Parliament will be making life more affordable for Northerners, addressing the housing and infrastructure needs of our communities, and working to make all communities healthier and safer."
