Though Linda and Evangeline Charlie assumed nothing had come of their Vogue shoot in March of 2021, they were both pleasantly surprised to find out that they were going to be featured in the prestigious fashion magazine.

SA国际影视传媒淲e did that shoot over a year ago,SA国际影视传媒� Linda continued. SA国际影视传媒淎nd basically we were like, SA国际影视传媒極K, I guess (the) photographer didnSA国际影视传媒檛 like the pictures because it was so long for us to get them back.
SA国际影视传媒淯sually when we do a photo shoot weSA国际影视传媒檒l see the pictures around three to six months later or like an ad campaign. So by the time you see the pictures, theySA国际影视传媒檙e old.SA国际影视传媒�
Despite a seeming lack of results, this wasnSA国际影视传媒檛 anything to fear as a recent trip to LindaSA国际影视传媒檚 agency would bring about some clarity.
SA国际影视传媒淚 had to go to my agency to update my headshots because my hair grew and whatnot, and the photographer was like, SA国际影视传媒楬ey, I just got those pictures back from the retouch,SA国际影视传媒橲A国际影视传媒� said Linda. SA国际影视传媒淪A国际影视传媒橝re you excited for them to be published?SA国际影视传媒� When she said that I was just in shock.SA国际影视传媒�
SA国际影视传媒淪o after she said that, I was just checking Vogue every day. Like, itSA国际影视传媒檚 gonna get published, and when it did happen, I was like, SA国际影视传媒極h, my God.SA国际影视传媒橲A国际影视传媒�
Linda, 23, officially started her modelling career around four years ago while Evangeline, 19, has been involved for about a year. They reside in Yellowknife.
SA国际影视传媒淲hat was interesting for me (was) I wanted to work with photographers and I just wanted some cool pictures,SA国际影视传媒� said Linda, describing why the job appealed to her. SA国际影视传媒淚 think like the campaign and the editorial things were just like a bonus. Like, I just got lucky that I got to do that.SA国际影视传媒�
Before the Vogue shoot, the sisters had been involved in numerous outlets, including Bridal Fantasy, Hillberg and Birk, Jourdian, and Dean Davidson.
The response from friends, family and others to the sistersSA国际影视传媒� involvement with Vogue was nothing sort of spectacular.
SA国际影视传媒淚tSA国际影视传媒檚 a huge honour because we come from a small town in Nunavut, Taloyoak, and thereSA国际影视传媒檚 about 800 people there,SA国际影视传媒� said Linda.
WhatSA国际影视传媒檚 even more incredible is that the Vogue shoot was EvangelineSA国际影视传媒檚 first, making for quite a kicking off point in her career.
Evangeline got even more experience right out of the gate with another shoot that would be featured in Basic Magazine.
SA国际影视传媒淵eah, itSA国际影视传媒檚 been really good for Evangeline so far,SA国际影视传媒� said Linda.
However, while the sisters do appreciate the recognition, experience and positive feedback that they have received, there is a deeper meaning that goes along with their success.
SA国际影视传媒淲e grew up a part of our Inuit community and our dad also went to (a) residential school and I think itSA国际影视传媒檚 important for us being a part of marginalized communities to be representingSA国际影视传媒� these people,SA国际影视传媒� said Linda. SA国际影视传媒淏ecause people like us werenSA国际影视传媒檛 always shown in mediaSA国际影视传媒� our momSA国际影视传媒檚 side, sheSA国际影视传媒檚 an immigrant from Kenya, and on our dadSA国际影视传媒檚 side, heSA国际影视传媒檚 Inuit, Indigenous residential school survivor.SA国际影视传媒�
SA国际影视传媒漌e donSA国际影视传媒檛 come from a background of wealth. So growing up being a part of marginalized communities, weSA国际影视传媒檝e had our fair share of hardships and oppression in life. But weSA国际影视传媒檝e also been very, very lucky in certain situations, and we choose to highlight those, because unfortunately, groups of people like us, have not always been represented in media. So we hope that in the future, we see more and more of these opportunities given to Indigenous people,SA国际影视传媒� Linda said.
Though they canSA国际影视传媒檛 reveal what the future holds, they are able to confirm that they have SA国际影视传媒渟ome really cool projectsSA国际影视传媒� on the horizon that should be coming to light as early as this fall.
SA国际影视传媒淚 think itSA国际影视传媒檚 only going up from here,SA国际影视传媒� said Linda. SA国际影视传媒淵eah, we didnSA国际影视传媒檛 expect such an overwhelming amount of support, especially from like our community up north, like our family and community members in love but sorry, also (they) are not only up north, like we have some family members in Texas and in Kenya who are sharing that, that last story that has been published with the CBC. So itSA国际影视传媒檚, like, we were shocked that this amount of people have like, found their stories.SA国际影视传媒�
