Three charged after firearms, drugs recovered from K'atl'odeeche residence

Three people have been charged after police recovered firearms and drugs from a K'atl'odeeche First Nation on March 26. 

officers responded to a call to keep the peace at a residence around 10:30 p.m. An individual was arrested at the scene and police allege that he had "a quantity" of suspected crack-cocaine in his possession, in addition to an unsecured firearm in the residence.

Two other occupants were subsequently arrested.

An investigation began and a search warrant for the residence was obtained. Approximately 60 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, a long gun and a pistol were found, the stated on March 31.

A 17-year-old Alberta youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of firearms.

Daryl Smallgeese, 43, and Kyle Norn, 33, of K'atl'odeeche First Nation are charged with unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of firearms.

Norn, who was previously released on bail and subject to a release order, faces a further charge of failure to comply with court release order conditions.

Norn and the accused youth appeared before a justice of the peace and were held in custody. Smallgeese was released to appear in court in Hay River at a later date.

Hay River offered thanks K'atl'odeeche First Nation for being "steadfast partners in public safety and assisting with this matter."
