Bad flu season predicted

The flu season is getting an early start in the NWT, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada, and it might be an indicator of a heavy season ahead.

The NWT, with the exception of the Sahtu and Beaufort Delta, was flagged as one of several regions around Canada already experiencing sporadic cases of influenza in early and mid-September.

These indicators, combined with those seen elsewhere across the nation, illustrate levels of flu activity above what the agency has seen in previous years.

To help prevent catching the flu this fall, the health agency advises getting vaccinated SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ and to get a new vaccination every year SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½“ as well as washing hands regularly and keeping surfaces clean. As well, staying active and making sure to get adequate rest each night helps keep immune systems strong.
