A body found in Lennie Lake near Norman Wells last week has been identified as that of Darren Whiteman.
Whiteman, 20, was the subject of an exhaustive search effort led by Sahtu Search and Rescue, , family members and volunteers after being reported missing in the fall.
He was last seen at a cabin on Lennie Lake on Sept. 12. suspended its search on Sept. 21.
His body was located about 35 kilometres from Norman Wells on May 27 and identified on Friday, the NWT Coroner Service confirms.
In an interview with CBC North in April, WhitemanSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s father Doug vowed to continue to search for his sonSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s body after the winter forced him to halt his efforts.
WhitemanSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s body has been sent to Edmonton for a postmortem examination. Foul play is not suspected in his death.
