Body of missing Norman Wells man found

Nunavut's crime rate climbed by two per cent in 2017 while the territory's crime severity index went up by one per cent last year, according to data from Statistics Canada on Monday morning.

The body of 39-year-old Howard Blondin has been found following an exhaustive search by law enforcement and community volunteers alike.

Blondin's body was located Saturday night in the Mackenzie River by Norman Wells outside of the community, stated an news release Monday.

Blondin was reported missing on July 17, triggering a far-reaching ground, water and aerial search. His ATV was located near the community dock on the MacKenzie River.

A post mortem probe has been ordered by the NWT Coroner Service.

"The would like to thank all the volunteers and organizations that helped out with the search and provided many man hours and in some cases their own personal equipment such as boats and ATV," stated the news release.
