Grab your golf cart and your significant other for the Couples Best Ball Tournament.
The Hay River Golf Club will host couples for an 18-hole golf tournament on Saturday Sept. 15.
The tournament's $25 per person entry fee also covers dinner.
Prizes will be handed out for the longest drive on hole one and eight, and for competitors who land closest to the pin on holes four and seven.
Solo entries are welcome and will be assigned to a team.

Spoken word festival coming to Hay River

The North has a lot to say, and artists will be sharing their stories during the Ko K'e Spoken Word and Music Festival on Sept. 17 in Hay River.
Multi-disciplinary artist Kiera Kolson is set to headline the event along with fiddler and composer Wesley Hardisty, winner of People's Choice Award for Best Fiddle CD.
The event will be held at the Chief Lamalice Complex in K'atlodeeche First Nation.
Single tickets for adults cost $10, while children and seniors can pay by donation.
The festival starts at 7 p.m.
Volunteers to be celebrated

The Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk is set to recognize the efforts of community volunteers.
Kitti Hall will host a volunteer recognition feast on Sept. 26.
The event was originally scheduled for Aug. 29, but was bumped up due to scheduling conflicts.
Weekend-long willow basket making workshop

Fort Smith's The Northern Life Museum and Culture Centre will host a willow basket making workshop beginning Sept. 15.
Participants will learn how to craft a willow basket out of local materials with the help of instructor Cathie Harper.
There is a $120 registration fee.
The workshop will run on Sept. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and again on Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Landscape painting workshop

For artistically-inclined Fort Smith residents looking to try their hand at landscape painting, there's a workshop for you.
Instructor Peter Potapoff, a professional artist with 35 years of experience, will lead an weekend-long intermediate acrylic landscape painting workshop at Northern Life Museum.
The workshop, which is meant to nurture the skills of painters with some experience, will offer techniques and tips for capturing landscapes.
The workshop will take place on Sept. 28, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration fee is $120 and participants are asked to bring their own brushes and paint. A 16 x 20 cradled birch panel will be provided to.

Grandparents to be celebrated

Residents of Tuktoyaktuk are set to celebrate their elders for Grandparent's Day.
Community members are invited to Kitti Hall for the celebration on Sept. 11.
Refreshments and fun games for grandparents in the community will be offered.
