The relationship between the Crown and Inuvialuit is improving after the bad news of the moratorium, the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation stated in a news release.
Duane Smith, president of the IRC, applauds the approach the federal government has taken when it comes to Inuit and Crown relationships.
"The Inuit-Crown Partnership Committee encourages reconciliation by establishing shared priority areas between Inuit and Canada and allows work to be completed jointly to pursue positive outcomes," he stated.
One specific issue that has been designated as a priority area through the ICPC is the development of new approaches to deliver on housing needs of Inuit.
The IRC is currently constructing a six-plex in Inuvik and four-plex in Aklavik, both funded through Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada.
