Police in the Northwest Territories have seized four firearms in under a week.

Fort Liard and Fort Simpson intercepted southbound vehicles during a check stop on Highway 7 on Monday, according to a news release.

Five vehicles were stopped. Police seized two loaded and improperly stored firearms and a "large" amount of alcohol, including 22 bottles of vodka and more than four dozen cans of beer.

"The Fort Liard will continue to work in conjunction with Fort Simpson and other partner agencies," the release read. "Further, more check stops should be expected in an effort to curb the illegal sale of alcohol, impaired driving and other criminal offences in the Fort Liard area."

The seizures follow a similar bust outside Fort Providence April 3. Police took two firearms and a quantity of whiskey in that stop.

No charges have been laid in either case.
