Yellowknife are investigating a 'suspicious' fire that broke out in the backyard of a Range Lake area-home early Thursday morning.

Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a report a snowmobile had caught fire near a residence located on Jeske Crescent at 4:45 a.m., a city spokesperson told Yellowknifer.

The fire was put out before it spread to the residence, but some of the "surrounding structures sustained damage from the fire," state police in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

Police say no one was injured as a result of the blaze.

Yellowknife and the NWT fire marshal are probing the fire.
