Two people were carried into a pair of ambulances late Tuesday afternoon after a report of an assault in front of the Sobering Centre/Day Shelter that prompted a large-scale police and MED response.
Three vehicles, a Yellowknife fire department vehicle and two MED SUVs descended on 50 Street just after 4:30 p.m., where paramedics tended to a man seen lying in the middle on the road beside Subway.
Amid the chaotic scene, which drew onlookers and forced MED to shut off a stretch of road in front of the Sobering Centre, officers were seen taking a man into custody.
Mounties confirmed late Tuesday night a man had been arrested on scene, and that police are investigating the incident, described as an "altercation" involving "several individuals."
The apparently injured man, along with other individual, were carried by stretchers into ambulances following the incident.
Yellowknife Mounties were seen canvasing the area in the hopes of locating a business with a security camera aimed at the location of the incident, close to Subway.
It's unclear what injuries the two individuals sustained at this time.
The reported assault comes as some neighbours near the shelter have raised concerns about violence in the area since the facility opened last fall.
More to come.
