Police deployed a Taser device while arresting two males Saturday afternoon after responded to "altercation" on a downtown vacant lot across from Centre Square Mall.
The incident occurred on 50 Street between 51 and 50 Avenue at around 3 p.m., states a news release from the .
According to police, both Yellowknife and Yellowknife Fire Division emergency medical response services were at the scene.
Police say a Conducted Energy Weapon, more popularly known as a Taser, was used as the two men were taken into custody.
No charges have been laid and the investigation is ongoing.
This latest incident follows a recent city council presentation by April Desjarlais, owner of the Finn Hansen Building which is next door to the day shelter and sobering centre on 50 Street. She complained about the violence and general mayhem that has occurred since the facility opened on 50 Street last fall.
Public video postings of violence on social media of the area, as well as the creation of a new Facebook group by Desjarlais called, gathered significant media and community attention last week.
Saturday's incident follows another Wednesday where an alleged assault occurred in front of the Finn Hansen Building.
Police are asking any witnesses in the area with video footage of Saturday's incident to contact the Yellowknife detachment.
"It is in a high population density area, so public citizens may have witnessed the incident and some may have recorded it," stated Marie York-Condon, spokesperson for the . " are asking for any witnesses or anyone with video footage to please attend the Yellowknife Detachment to assist with the investigation."
