Woman suffers serious injuries in Kam Lake fire

A woman was medevaced to an Edmonton hospital with serious injuries following a house fire in the Kam Lake area Wednesday night.

The blaze broke out around 7:15 p.m. on a Drybones Drive lot near Arctic Farmer, behind a tire shop, according to the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD).

Seven YKFD personnel, along with two tankers and an ambulance, arrived at the scene to find the single story dwelling billowing smoke from its eves and sides. An evacuation was already in progress.

Yellowknife and city's municipal enforcement division (MED) also attended the fire.

Two dogs were killed in the fire, stated police in a news release issued Thursday.

The woman's medical status is unknown at this time.

The territory's fire marshal is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.
