Did you witness an alleged assault near a busy downtown intersection Tuesday that sent two to hospital and led to the arrest of one man? If so, Yellowknife would like to hear from you.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries just after 4:30 p.m. yesterday following a report of an altercation between "several" people near the intersection of 50 Street and 51 Avenue, according to a news release issued late Tuesday night.

Yellowknifer was on scene just before a fleet of vehicles, accompanied by a MED SUVs that temporarily blocked off a portion of 50 Street, tended to an apparently injured man seen lying in the middle of the street near the Subway restaurant.

Mounties arrested one man nearby the chaotic scene, which drew dozens of onlookers. But police believe more people were involved.

They're now calling on anyone who may have witnessed or recorded the altercation to come forward to with information of video footage of the incident.

"At this time, do not have any video footage of the alleged assault, and encourage anyone that may have recorded any portion of the incident to come forward and provide to ," states spokesperson Marie York-Condon in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½œThis incident happened in a busy area of downtown, at a busy time of the day, so may have been witnessed by people in the area," added York-Condon.

No charges have been laid and are continuing to investigate the alleged assault.

The incident comes as some neighbours near the shelter have raised concerns about violence in the area since the facility opened last fall.

Residents who may have witnessed the incident are asked to contact at 867-669-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
