At least five people have so far expressed interest in being the NWT's next Liberal candidate for Parliament, according to David Monroe, chair of the territory's Liberal board of directors.

"We have had five people express an interest directly to me, however, I am not in a position to disclose names," he wrote in an email on Sept. 12. "Recognizing that we have big shoes to fill with Michael McLeod's retirement, we are committed to maintaining an open nomination process for our next candidate. Ultimately the candidate will be chosen by the membership of the Liberal party in the NWT prior to the next election."

In early July, Michael McLeod, a three-term incumbent MP, announced his pending retirement. He served as the NWT's representative in Ottawa for almost a decade, starting in 2015.

The candidate for the Conservative party is Kimberly Fairman. It's her first time running. She eclipsed former Nunakput MLA Jackie Jacobson for the candidacy earlier this summer.

The NDP candidate is Kelvin Kotchilea, who's been representing the New Democrats since 2021.

SA国际影视传媒 reached out to the Green Party for comment on who its candidate will be but did not hear back in time for publication.
