Everyone has a Christmas wish list and that includes city councillors.
SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ decided to ask those in charge at city hall what they want for the holidays and if they've got a New Year's resolution. Here's some of what we got back:
Mayor Rebecca Alty described 2024 as a year of catch-up, and is hoping for a stable 2025. She said that she wants the city to continue addressing core areas like increasing housing and growing the economy.
Personally, Alty said she's looking to allocate time once a week to work on an art or craft project.
Coun. Steve Payne said he wants to be able to spend time with family and friends.
"The older we get the less it is about gifts and more about time," he said. "For the city, I want to have a happy staff. Our city employees work so hard throughout the year, so I hope they have a nice relaxing break over the holidays."
Coun. Stacie Arden-Smith said she would like to see more people spreading holiday cheer.
"The holiday season is stressful and we often donSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™t know what others are going through or struggling with, so it would be nice for kindness to be contagious this season instead of the flu," she said. "For myself, my wish list is very simple, to do the things I love, go on adventures and if I get a chance, do them while perfectly caffeinated."
As for a New Year's resolution, Arden-Smith said she does not believe in those.
"If you have full intent on making any life changes, the time of year should never matter when achieving a goal," she said.
When asked what's on his wish list, Coun. Ben Hendriksen replied that he'd like to take the chance to thank Yellowknife support workers for people in emergency and temporary housing.
"They perform selfless work that is too often underappreciated and without the chance to take a rest," he said.
Coun. Garett Cochrane said he's looking forward to the master transportation plan that the city's undertaking next year and added he wants to see vital changes to the city's community plan.
For 2025, he said he'll keep advocating for a multi-use space that houses the Yellowknife Public Library and an indoor skate park

SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½ will keep up an eye on each councillor's resolution to see if they hold up to it.
