$19.6 million from feds for Indigenous language - McLeod

Minister Alfred Moses was criticized for the patronage appointment of a long-time aide to the WSCC.

Indigenous languages in the Northwest Territories will receive $19.6 million.

Northwest Territories MP Michael McLeod made the announcement May 26. It comes after negotiations over the past year between the federal government, the GNWT and Nunavut, stated a news release.

The GNWT will receive $5.9 million for 2017-2018, while Nunavut will receive $4.1 million for the same period.

Alfred Moses, NWT minister of education, culture and employment said the money was a positive step for NWT communities.

The money will cover indigenous language services from 2016-2020.
