The hamlet of Rankin Inlet will host its annual spring party this week as Pakallak Tyme gets underway today, May 1, and runs until May 5, with one extra added attraction scheduled for May 7.
The annual party in the community features something for everyone of all ages, ranging from an elderSA国际影视传媒檚 breakfast to community feasts, square dances, square-dance competitions, snowmobile races, bouncy castles, both outdoor and indoor games, a talent show and numerous other activities throughout the week.
On Tuesday, May 7, a special evening of stand-up comedy will be presented, with Still Standing featured performers including Fraser Young, Graham Chittenden, Steve Dylan and special guest comedian Johnny Harris.
There will be no admission to the show, which will get underway at 6:30 p.m. at a venue yet to be determined.
Science camp
Kivalliq
Inuit students aged 12 to 15 across the Kivalliq region who love science are reminded the national science camp will be held at Trent University in Peterborough, Ont., from July 21 to 28.
The camp will be hosted by Indigenous Services Canada in partnership with local First Nations and the Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute.

Student awards
Rankin Inlet
The student awards for the 2018-2019 school year will be presented at Maani Ulujuk Ilinniarvik (MUI) in Rankin Inlet on June 14.
The event usually sees the MUI gym packed to the rafters, so parents, family members and friends are encouraged to arrive early to ensure themselves of getting a seat.
New building
Baker Lake
Minister responsible for Qulliq Energy Corp. (QEC) Jeannie Ehaloak has granted permission for the QEC to proceed with the construction of a new head office in Baker Lake.
The announcement was made public on April 25.
Construction of the new head office is expected to be completed by the fall of 2021 at an estimated cost of $13 million.
The project is also expected to resolve office shortage issues when the lease to QECSA国际影视传媒檚 largest office space ends.
