Damage to a fibre optics line leading to Yellowknife is being blamed for last night's 'major disruption' in telecommunication services in the city and surrounding areas.
According to an early Thursday morning news release, service was disrupted at approximately 8 p.m. local time on May 8.
Technicians responded immediately to performed temporary repairs and service is now restored.
NorthwesTel says they are now investigating the cause of the damage while completing full repairs.
"We will not comment on the nature or cause of the damage while this investigation is ongoing," stated Andrew Anderson, director of communications.
"We apologize to the customers who were impacted by this unfortunate disruption.
